This place has consistently maintained its position as Hawaii's best steakhouse, even as generations change. Hai's Steak House, one of Honolulu's most famous steakhouses, opened in Hawaii in 1976 following the establishment of a restaurant in Calgary, Canada, in the 1960s. Distinguished by its classic yet sophisticated atmosphere, this traditional American restaurant has maintained its reputation as the best in the same location for over 40 years, making it undeniably Hawaii's premier steakhouse. It has also long been selected as the Best Hawaii Steakhouse by food and travel magazines around the world. Loved by locals as well as many celebrities visiting Hawaii for its traditional cuisine that harmonizes American and Pacific Rim dishes, including its signature steak, it is a favorite among many. The interior is antique and elegant, resembling a social club or a royal library. In the center of the spacious dining hall stands a large glass-walled fireplace where the chef prepares ordered steaks, a fascinating sight that all customers inside can watch. In particular, Hai's Steak House uses only the finest, hormone-free USDA Prime beef for its steaks smoked over Chiave wood. Famous for its filet mignon, T-bone, and ribeye, the foie gras-topped steak is a popular choice, and you can also order a large 32-ounce steak, large enough for two to three people to share, which is larger than a standard size. The steaks are coated with Hawaiian salt and herbs, then roasted at a low temperature of 250 degrees for 90 minutes, followed by another 30 minutes of high heat at 325 degrees to finish. Another must-try here is the flambé dessert. Flavorful chocolate, fruit, and ice cream flambés, cooked right at your table over high heat to burn off the alcohol, make a dinner at Hai's even more special. In addition, Highs Steak House boasts an excellent wine selection, making it ideal for those wishing to enjoy authentic steak. It is also recommended for various important occasions such as business entertaining, anniversaries, parties, and wedding receptions, as well as formal family meetings, after-wedding parties, and corporate gatherings, thanks to its classic atmosphere and semi-private table spaces. The restaurant operates only during dinner hours, and advance reservations are required.
